The Clayton County Police Department, along with the assistance of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, arrested three men suspected in a burglary, after they crashed their car in Fayetteville, according to a police spokesman.
Officer Otis Willis, with the Clayton County Police Department, said that, on Wednesday afternoon, officers were able to locate the vehicle connected to the burglary, when the three suspects crashed on Highway 85, at Banks Road, in Fayetteville.
Willis said that after the accident, one of the suspects made a stop to eat at a Piccadilly Cafeteria, where he was identified by police from footage on a dashboard camera. "All three of the suspects took flight, but were caught and arrested," said Willis.
"The suspects were captured at 12:20 p.m.," according to Willis. Police said that the manhunt began when a neighbor called 911, after seeing three men exiting a home in the River's Edge Plantation subdivision, in Fayetteville.
Willis explained that the neighbor gave officials a description of the suspects' vehicle, a silver Toyota, and police spotted the car as it was leaving the subdivision.
"The call was received at 12:03 p.m., and police responded at 12:10 p.m.," said Willis.
He added that the men allegedly stole jewelry from the home. A firearm was later found in the Toyota, officials said.
According to Willis, there were no injuries reported in the crash. He added that the suspects' names had not been released, as of Wednesday evening.
Officer Willis said Clayton County Police were able to apprehend the suspects with the help of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
He added that he wanted to "thank citizens for notifying officials when they saw suspicious activity," and said he urges residents to continue to get involved in helping improve the county.
