From Staff Reports

After a banner season in which he was at the top of the Peach Belt Conference in scoring, Clayton State's Brandon Robinson received the ultimate honor this week - Division II All-American.

In its April postseason addition, Division II Bulletin released its 2010-11 Division II All-American team for men's basketball, and Robinson was selected as an honorable mention Division II All-American. Robinson becomes only the second player in the history of Clayton State men's basketball to garner All-American honors, joining former Laker great Robert Conley, who was a Daktronics Division II third team All-American selection in 1999.

Robinson is also the first Clayton State All-American under current Laker head coach Gordon Gibbons.

A 6-foot-6, 180-pound senior from Lake Wales, Fla., Robinson led the Peach Belt Conference in scoring, averaging 20 points a game as the Lakers finished up 19-10 overall and 10-7 in the Peach Belt. He scored in double-figures in every game this season for the Lakers. Three times, he has scored 30 or more points, including his career-high 31 points twice against St. Augustine's and against Georgia Southwestern in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

Women's tennis rolls

Playing its first match in nearly two weeks due to bad weather, the Clayton State Laker women's tennis team shook off any kind of rust it had with an impressive 9-0 victory over visiting West Georgia on Friday at Laker Courts.

Clayton State, ranked 12th in the latest ITA Division II national rankings, has won three straight to improve to 8-5 overall. West Georgia slips to 3-10.

The Lakers controlled the match, losing only four games combined. In singles, Katie White (No. 1), Ivana Krommelova (No. 2) and Martina Dedaj (No. 4) each won with dropping a single game. In doubles, White and Marie Cercelletti (No. 1) and Charlotte Fabricius and Jessica (No. 3) each won by shutout.

Clayton State is back in action tomorrow with a key 1 p.m. showdown against Conference Carolinas power Erskine at Laker Courts.
