Parents who want to have their children moved from one Clayton County school, to another, because of one of a variety of issues, including medical reasons, or child care situations, have only two weeks left to apply for a hardship transfer waiver, the school district has announced.
The school district set April 22 as its deadline for parents to apply for the transfers, which are available under state law, according to a news release from the district. In addition to being available to students with medical issues, or child care situations, the transfers are also available for children of school system employees.
Students can transfer to schools that have space available for them, according to the district's new release. Transfer request forms are available through the district's web site, www.clayton.k12.ga.us/, or at individual schools.
The forms must be submitted by mail, or by hand, to the Transfer Request committee, at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration complex, which is located at 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro, 30236. The forms can also be faxed to (678) 817-3098.
The school system also announced that Sept. 9 is the deadline to apply for a transfer for a student with disabilities, through what is known as Georgia Special Needs Scholarship transfers. The special needs transfers are separate from the hardship transfers.
