Age: 88
Mrs. Mildred Catherine Smith South, 88, of McDonough, passed April 8, 2011. She was born in Stephens County, Ga., to the late Bud Jeff and Lillian Haddock Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Benjamin South, Sr.; a son, James Timothy South, Sr.; brother, William L. Bill Smith; sisters, Betty Mauldin and Alice Smith. She was a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and Southern gospel music. Survivors include her children, Joseph B. South, Jr., of Smyrna, Edith South (Buddy) Lyon, of McDonough; grandchildren, Catherine Lyon, Michele Norris, Melissa Hall, Katrina Allred, Joseph B. South, III, Jimmy Bolinger, James T. South, Jr.; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Mary) Smith, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Wilburn Smith, of Tempe, Ariz., John (Shelby) Smith, of Martin, Ga., Harold (Sara) Smith, of Douglasville; sisters, Frances Trekas, of Mesa, Ariz., Ella Tharp, of Toddsville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted TODAY ( Tuesday, April 12), at 11 a.m., from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Creasman will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselane Cemetery in Toccoa, Ga., at 4 p.m. Friends visited the family Sunday, from 4 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Contributions are asked to be made to Glen Haven Baptist Church Building Fund, or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Mrs. South.
