Charges are expected today in connection with the discovery of a body buried in the backyard of a south Valdosta, Ga., house.
Valdosta Police Commander Brian Childress said, Monday, that the remains of a male were dug up late Friday afternoon from a backyard on Church Street. Childress said the remains have been in the ground for more than a year, but he could not provide more details because of the ongoing investigation.
Clayton County Police Officer Phong Nguyen said a local man provided information about the body.
"On Friday, we were dispatched to a person needing attention call," Nguyen said. "Upon further investigation, the subject advised us to look in an area in Valdosta for a body."
Childress said officers with cadaver dogs went to the vacant house on Church Street and started digging. The remains are being taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Macon, he said.
Nguyen said the local man has been charged with probation violations, and is in the Clayton County Jail, but he declined to release his name.
Childress wouldn't release the name, either, citing the ongoing investigation.
