To the editor:
What would be the reaction of the Church in America, if we opened the Bible to read the following words? "To the angel of the church in [America] write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you."
Recently, I have heard several wannabe political leaders from both of the major political parties say, "America is going to hell in a hand basket!" Yet, neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have been able to lead America back to the straight and narrow path. Why not?
Could it be that they do not know the path from which America has strayed? Is it possible that Democrats and Republicans alike are unaware of the one thing that truly made America great? Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th president of the United States, in his final campaign address in Boston, Mass., Nov. 3, 1952, defined the greatness of America.
He stated: " I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers -- and it was not there ... in her fertile fields and boundless forests -- and it was not there ... in her rich mines and her vast world commerce -- and it was not there ... in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution -- and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.
Is America going to hell in a hand basket as the Democrat and Republican hopefuls maintain? Is America falling from greatness? Has America cease to be good?
Then, why does America continue to expect in vain the blessings she has so richly been granted without acknowledging the source of those blessings? Why does America continue to follow these false prophets of the two major political parties who insist on leading us to hell in a hand basket?
It is time for all God-fearing, Bible-believing Democrats and Republicans to wake up, strengthen what remains, and is about to die, by remembering what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.
Is there a suitable alternative to the Democratic and Republican parties that aligns itself with the sentiments expressed by President Eisenhower in 1952, as well as the Founding Fathers of this great nation? Please contact me at email@example.com. It's time we for us to have a talk.
