Mundy's Mill defeats Banneker in Region 4-AAAA game
Rodney Smith, Jonathan Whitted and Raheem Jackson combined for six hits and seven RBIs to help sixth-ranked Mundy's Mill to a 16-9 victory over Banneker Monday in a Region 4-AAAA game. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning because of lightening. Smith also scored three runs for the Tigers, who have now won five straight games. Mundy's Mill (20-3, 17-1) is one win away from clinching its first region title in school history. The Tigers host Creekside Wednesday. Against Banneker, Tigers junior Anthony Hammonds (6-2) got the win after striking out four batters in four innings. Jerek Wright came on in relief for the last two innings. This past weekend, Mundy's Mill junior varsity squad won the county championship with a 9-1 win over Lovejoy. Jonesboro: 18, Riverdale 6: The Jonesboro Cardinals improved their record to 18-4 overall with a victory over the Raiders. Cameron Sutton was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals.More like this story
