From Staff Reports
Georgia Tech sophomore first baseman/designated player Caitlin Jordan has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Stockbridge native batted .625 (5-for-8) as Georgia Tech swept Virginia in a pair of games last week, its only competition of the week, and extended its ACC record winning streak in conference series' to 22. Jordan scored four runs, had three home runs and four RBI while slugging 1.750.
All three of Jordan's home runs came in one game as she tied the Georgia Tech single-game record. Savannah Brown is the only other Yellow Jacket to hit three home runs in a game and she did that twice in 2007.
Since coming in for an injury April 13 against Georgia, Jordan has hit safely in six straight games at a .667 (14-for-21) clip. She has eight runs scored, a double, six home runs and 10 RBI in that stretch while compiling a 2.253 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage).
Jordan and the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets will be back in action today when they host Mercer in a doubleheader that begins at 5 p.m. There are multiple platforms to follow the game including a live blog, video, audio and live stats. All of this will be available at RamblinWreck.com.
Before starting her college career, Jordan played high school ball at Union Grove.
