The scripture in the title of this column gives us a statement made by Jesus Christ, and reveals His wisdom, and compliments all Christians.
It is found in John 20:29, and happened when Jesus was showing His wounds to Thomas the apostle who earned the name of "Doubting Thomas" for his unbelief that the other disciples had seen Jesus.
As he put his finger into the nail holes in Jesus' hand and placed his hand into the wound where the Roman soldier's spear had cut open Jesus' side and pierced His heart, Jesus said to Thomas; "Don't be an unbeliever, but be a believer." Thomas, now thoroughly convinced He was the Living Lord responded, "My Lord and my God!" At this, Jesus said, "Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who believe without seeing."
In the scripture that follows, we find the purpose of this Gospel of Jesus Christ and the reason it was written. Verse 31 says, "But these [scriptures] are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing, you may have life in His Name."
At this point, we should say, "Thank You, God, for sending Your blessed Son, Jesus, into the world to show us the way to You, and to provide for our Salvation." What a great demonstration of God's love for all mankind! What a sacrifice our great God made when He willingly sent His one and only Son into the world to suffer and die for us, that we might be saved from hell. "Bless the Lord, oh my soul, bless His Holy Name!"
A simple "thank you" isn't enough for such a glorious gift of eternal life. We must thank Him with a life of devotion and loyalty, being sure we learn from His precious Word, the Holy Bible, how we can please Him and serve Him.
We must know His commands, and discipline our lives to carry them out. You may say, "Yes, but there are so many commands in God's Word, how can we ever carry them all out?"
Jesus Christ simplified this for us when He told us of the greatest commandment. It is found in Matthew 22:37-40, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
We must realize life is all about Jesus Christ and our faith in Him. We cannot please God, nor have a relationship with Him without believing in Jesus Christ and accepting Him as our savior and Lord. Every Christian has faith in God through Christ, and seeks to please Him by living a life of obedience to His Word.
We Christians should not have to tell others we are Christians, it should be evident by the lives we live. I pray we all will live lives that honor Christ.
If you are not a Christian, please place your faith in Jesus Christ and accept Him as your savior. It's as easy as ABC. A -- Admit your sin. Don't be hesitant about admitting you have sin in your life. We all do!
B -- Believe in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. If you are like most people, you already do believe, you just haven't told God about your belief in Him!
C -- Confess your sin. Now, this doesn't mean you name all your sin to God. He already knows every one. What you must do is to ask Him for forgiveness in Jesus' Name. Just pray this prayer with me: "Dear God, I know I'm a sinner. I believe in you and Your Son, Jesus. I believe Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sin, that He was raised to life again. Please forgive my sin in Jesus Christ's name, and give me Your gift of eternal life. In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen."
If you sincerely prayed this prayer, God heard you and granted your request! Your eternal life starts now! Welcome Home!
