Clayton County police early Wednesday morning arrested a suspected gang member they allege has been terrorizing his Hampton neighborhood.
Johnathan Eugene Oliver, Jr., 17, faces two counts each of armed robbery and aggravated assault and of participation in gang activity, said police Sgt. Otis Willis. Oliver was arrested on a no-knock warrant at his home. Willis said Oliver was taken into custody without incident and is cooperating with the investigation.
Oliver is pictured on Facebook throwing gang signs and has an extensive criminal record, said Willis. He is known by the alias "Richboi," according to jail records.
"He's been terrorizing several residents in the area and has threatened the life of a police officer," he said.
Four residents told police they were robbed at gunpoint of two cell phones about 1 a.m. July 18. They told police they were approached by a man with a black handgun who ordered them to "give me everything you got." The armed man was accompanied by two others who reportedly urged him to shoot one of the four.
Two residents ran away and called police. The remaining two told police the armed man again pointed the gun at them and demanded their cell phones. The three suspects then fled on foot south toward the entrance of Greystone Subdivision.
Willis said Oliver was identified as one of those three suspects. There is no information available on the other two. Oliver is being held in the Clayton County Jail pending his first appearance Thursday afternoon.
