Mariah Stackhouse, who is entering her senior year at North Clayton High School, finished second at the Junior PGA Championship in Indiana.
The Riverdale native had a final round of 2-under-par and a total of 283 at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club to finish 10 shots behind championship Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand.
Stackhouse held the second place position throughout the four-day tournament.
Stackhouse, who is committed to Stanford for fall 2012, said she was proud of the way she played after complementing Jutanugarn on the win.
"When someone plays that well, they deserve to win," said Stackhouse, who played with Jutanugarn the final three rounds. "I am pleased with my finish, but my hat is off to Ariya."
Only once during the tournament did Stackhouse shoot over par in a round. She finished Thursday's round one over, but was able to recover on Friday to maintain her second place spot. First round leader Casey Danielson finished third at 291.
Earlier this summer, Stackhouse played in the U.S. Open. She was the only African American in the field.
