Carolyn Mobley Washington, age 88, of Jackson, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 9, 2011. She was born in McDuffie County June 10, 1923, daughter of the late Stanton Alonzo Mobley and Lola Irene Kitchens Mobley. She was wife of the late Charles Edward Washington, who died in 2002. Mrs. Washington was a retired bookkeeper and had worked with the Combined Insurance Company. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson, before ill health, where she held many positions such as Sunday school teacher, WMU director and financial secretary among others. She was a Girl Scout leader and a former member of the Jackson Business and Professional Womens Organization. She and Mr. Washington were members of the Atlanta area Good Sam Camping Club. Survivors include her daughters, Betty (Jerry) Carter, Bonnie (Tony) Standard, all of Jackson, and Jenny and Ivan Summers of Rex; grandchildren, Charlie (Wendi) Carter, of Seattle, Wash., Ashley (Nicole) Carter, of Chicago, Ill., Tom Standard and Ruby VillaFranca, of Stockbridge, Jason (Melanie) Standard, of Jackson, Janna (Jayson) Hammett, of Jonesboro; step-granddaughter, Stacy Shelley, of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Chase, Baylee, Savannah and Quinn Carter of Seattle, Will and Cate Carter, of Chicago, Joshua Standard, of Jackson, Adam Powell, Kyle Cunningham, Mallory Hammett, all of Jonesboro; step-great-granddaughters, Kayla and McKenzie Shelley, of Gainesville; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mobley of Bainbridge, Ga., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Maybell (Jordan) Knox, Elizabeth (Lt. Col. Samuel) Pinder and Lowell (Robert) Freeman; brothers, Stanton (Martha) Mobley and the Rev. Marion Mobley. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Jackson with Dr. Joe Bufford officiating. Interment will be in the Jackson City Cemetery.
