Interview one-on-one for CSU students

Clayton State holds part-time job fair for students

The foyer of the Clayton State University (CSU) Student Services building was flooded with people on Tuesday morning. Scores of students came out to attend the university’s Annual Student Part-time Job Fair.

Dr. Angelyn Hayes, director of career services for the university, was responsible for organizing the event. She said the effort provides assistance for students looking to obtain part-time employment while attending school. “This [fair] is just for the students,” said Hayes, “And we work with getting students matched with jobs that suit them.”

Twenty companies were in attendance at the fair, to do on-the-spot interviews with students, as well as offer career advice. The majority of the companies on hand were departments from the university which included: Alumni Relations, University Bookstore, Center of Academic Success, Nursing School, Orientation and New Student Programs, University Police, Sodexo Campus Services, Facilities Management, and University Health Services.

Other companies on hand included: Cracker Barrel, Fastenal Company, FedEx Ground, Lowes, Primerica Financial Services, Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc., State Farm Insurance, Wal-Mart store in Morrow, and Wells Fargo Bank.

Chanielle Lee, a senior at CSU, and a career ambassador for the Career Services Department, said because of her affiliation with the department she has been able to receive a vast amount of work experience. She said another benefit is, the job opportunities have helped to alleviate a lot of financial burden. “Some of us are non-traditional students here,” said Lee. “We have families and other responsibilities. So anything helps.”

Matthew Cox, service center manager for Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc., said he saw a lot of potential during the fair. “Many positions at our company are part-time,” he said, “which will work well with a student’s college schedule.”

Students who are interested in learning more about the companies that attended the job fair, said Lee, can visit the Career Services Department, located in the school’s student center building.
