An update on the Lord’s Airport Ministry - Jim Bell

Printed in the Sept. 9, 2004 “Christian Index,” page 14, are pictures of three soldiers standing on the 2nd floor of the atrium of the airport holding their free CD presented by the airport ministry group.

This article states: “In an effort to acknowledge the sacrifices of U.S. military personnel, a CD has been produced by a group of Georgia Baptists featuring original music and messages of thanks to our troops.”

The article continues, “James Bell, a poet and layman at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, has been the driving force behind the production and distribution of the CD, titled, ‘They are our Heroes.’ The CD consists of four tracks. Two original songs, both written by Bell, sing of love of our country and appreciation of our troops. The other two tracks, says Bell, are a vocal message from church members and a message of the gospel with a prayer of repentance and rededication. To date (9/9/04) Bell says, around 100 CDs have been given away to soldiers.”

When this article came out in the Index, I was the only person going to the airport and thanking our soldiers for their service to our country. Now the ministry consists of five men who go to the airport three days a week to talk with our soldiers and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have given over 4,000 CDs to these brave men and women and have been blessed with over 5,300 soldiers praying the sinners prayer and receiving Jesus Christ as Savior!

As I went to the airport each week in the early days of this ministry, I was praying earnestly for the Lord to open doors of opportunity and to lead me, to help me do His Will as He blessed the soldiers I met there. From the very beginning, I prayed Jesus would bless my efforts and give me strength and courage, and bless me with the power of the Holy Spirit.

I assured Him I would always give Him all the praise and glory for the results received. He let me know He not only wanted me to thank our soldiers, but to share the gospel with all who would listen. I prayed for help to reach more soldiers there, and He led four others, fine dedicated men to join me. Praise the Lord!

He continues to bless our efforts each time we go to witness for Him. One of the blessings we receive from those who listen and pray with us is how grateful and thankful they are for our thanks, and appreciation of their service to our country. Many say, “Thanks, I really feel better now.” or, “Thanks for the prayer,” or “I really needed to pray that prayer.” We encourage them to read the Bible and pray each day.

My Lord has led me to write a book about witnessing for Him. Titled, “Arrive Alive,” the book talks about how He led me to share His love, His gospel, with those who do not know Him as Savior and Lord, and to begin the “Airport Ministry.” I believe every Christian should read this book, for it will inspire them to witness for the Lord and to know the blessings of His grace.

In order to receive a copy of the book and a CD, send $10, plus $5 postage and handling, check or money order, payable to Bro. James Ministries, c/o James Bell, 2031 Cooper Way, Jonesboro, Ga. 30236.

If you are reading this article, and are not a Christian, please know that God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. Just pray a simple prayer asking God to forgive your sins in Jesus’ name; then go to a Bible-teaching church and join with other Christians to worship and praise the Lord. You will see a great change in your life.

I pray you will!

How can you say you were the only one thanking our troops when the USO, under the leadership of Mary Lou Austin, has been thanking our troops 365 days a year for over 30 years at the Atlanta Airport? Troops are given food, a safe haven, phone cards, toiletries, help with travel, lodging etc. They are thanked for their service and led through the Atrium by volunteers and the public applauding their service as they go to flights overseas. I know you are doing a service but don't think you are the only one thanking the troops. USO has been doing this for years and will continue through contributions from those that love our country and our servicemen and servicewomen.
