Thousands of people from across metro Atlanta braved the sweltering heat to attend the final summer concert of the year, in the City of Riverdale’s South City Concert Series. And to say that they seemed to enjoy themselves, would be an understatement.
People clapped, swayed with the music, often getting out of their seats to dance, as local fire department personnel kept watch to try and make sure aisles were kept clear.
The event was held this past Saturday at the Riverdale Town Center Amphitheater, at 7200 Church Street, in Riverdale.
Rhythm and blues artist Angie Stone took the stage as a co-host, along with on-air personalities from KISS 104.1 FM radio, who also dispensed free, hand-held fans to many in the audience.
Howard Hewett and the 911 Band were also on the menu of performers, bringing the summer concert series to a revved-up close.
Cie Cie McGhee, the city’s marketing and events specialist, said the purpose of the summer series was to spotlight the City of Riverdale’s cultural arts programs, and judging from the closing session Saturday, the goal was achieved.
