Union Grove senior gets one of her three hits in a 5-0 win over Ola Thursday in a Region 3-AAAA, Div. A game.
Union Grove junior Megan Betsa provided the Wolverines with some offensive firepower and stellar pitching in a key Region 3-AAAA, Div. A win at Ola Thursday.
Betsa had seven strikeouts and gave up only three hits to with her two-run home run in a 5-0 win over the third-ranked Mustangs. Union Grove, ranked No. 9 in the latest coaches’ poll, improved to 8-2 overall with the win, its fifth in a row.
In addition to Betsa, Jordan Corbin had two hits and Haley Chambley was perfect in three plate appearances. Allison Waters got the Wolverines on the scoreboard first with an RBI to bring home Megan in the fifth inning.
“Ola is probably the best hitting team in our region,” Union Grove coach Rod Pipkin said. “For us to give up only three hits is great.”
Union Grove travels to Kennesaw Mountian High this weekend to play in the Buccaneer Bast Invitational, before closing out the first half of its subregion schedule against visiting Jones County Tuesday.
The Greyhounds, ranked No. 2 in the state, are the defending Class AAAA champions.
ELCA defeats higher class teams
Eagle’s Landing Christian, the No. 3 team in Class AA/A, defeated Marist and McIntosh Thursday at home. In the 26-24, 24-26, 25-13 win over Marist, the No. 4 team in AAAA, Mara Green had 16 kills and five blocks. Rachel Tolleson had 10 kills and Marissa Randolph had five kills.
In the win over McIntosh, the No. 5 team in AAAA, Green had 21 kills and three blocks. Tolleson had eight kills and Kodi Patterson had 32 assists.
Jonesboro defeats ranked team
Jonesboro defeated No. 2 Holy Innocents’ 25-19, 25-18 on the road. In the first game of the doubleheader at Holy Innocents’, the Cardinals defeated Pace 26-24, 25-12. Jonesboro will play its first home match of the season Tuesday against North Clayton and Morrow.
