Music and ministry will combine at a McDonough church for an old-time camp meeting this week.
The 2011 camp meeting began Sunday, at Way of the Cross Baptist Church, 1640 Mount Carmel Road, and will continue through Sept. 2.
"It's just a time for everyone to praise and worship the Lord," said the church's Pastor, Steven Bell. "There will be different preachers every night, and singing every night. I'm thinking we'll have at least 200 people come every night, maybe more."
Music will be provided throughout the services by the Way of the Cross choir. Other musicians who are scheduled to appear include The Edwards Family, the Victory Baptist Youth Choir, C.T. & Becky Townsend, the Carl Partain Family, and The Marksmen, who will take stage Sept. 1, at 7 p.m.
Pastor Bell said The Marksmen are two-time Dove Award nominees.
The Marksmen are a four-time Contemporary Bluegrass Gospel Group of the Year, and four-time Country Gospel Quartet of the Year winners, from the Country Gospel Music Guild. Their tunes include "He Is I Am," "Meet Me In Heaven," "Potter's Wheel," "Preach the Cross" and "Grandpa Was a Farmer."
They were recently nominated as 2011 Gospel Group of the Year by the Society for Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America, in Nashville, according to a press statement issued by Way of the Cross Baptist Church. During the camp meeting, they are slated to perform some of their Dove-nominated songs."
