Rachel Smith Dougherty
Rachel Smith Dougherty, 90, of Forest Park, passed away at the Appling Healthcare System Pavilion on Aug. 29, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Nick Dougherty.
She is survived by her brother, Gabe (Colleen) Smith, of Clarksville, Tenn.; sons, Dan (Anne) Dougherty, of Portland, Ore. and Ethan (Irma) Dougherty, of Baxley, Ga.; grandchildren, Dylan and Sarah Dougherty, of Portland, Ore., Ken Dougherty, of Charleston, S.C., Matt (Erica) Dougherty, of Villa Rica, Ga.; nephew, Kerry (Betty) Smith, of Palmyra, Tenn.; nieces, Alicia (Doug) Barber, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Alexis (Phil) Taylor, of Cumberland City, Tenn.
Mrs. Dougherty retired as a school secretary with the Clayton County School System. She was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, Sept.1, at 11 a.m. She will lie in state beginning at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Rick Long and the Rev. Marti Slife will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 31. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Jones Memorial Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
