The Clayton County Sheriff's Fugitive Unit has arrested a teenager they say robbed a local business with another teen, who is charged with killing a deputy in July.
Sheriff's Lt. Brian Crisp said Xavier Carter, 18, was arrested for an armed robbery at Illusions Hair Studio in Riverdale. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.
Crisp said Carter, of College Park, and Veasna Johnathan Bun, 17, entered the business and took cash from patrons. Brandishing a gun, Bun demanded money from customers, while Carter locked the door and closed curtains to hide the incident, an arrest warrant alleges.
Crisp said Bun was wanted for questioning in the incident on July 20, when Deputy Rick Daly initiated a traffic stop on the car in which Bun was a passenger. Daly was helping the Fugitive Unit serve felony warrants on Bun for the January armed robbery of a Forest Park store. Police said Bun opened fire on Daly as the deputy approached the car, killing him.
Crisp said Carter was taken into custody under similar circumstances, but with far different results.
"The Fugitive Unit, along with uniformed deputies, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle that Carter was a passenger in, and took Carter into custody," said Crisp. "Carter's arrest took place without incident, unlike that of his co-defendant's arrest, during which Deputy Richard Daly lost his life."
Bun faces murder and other felony charges in Daly's death. He is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail.
Bun also pleaded no contest in Clayton State Court, Monday, to two misdemeanor charges related to a separate, May incident, involving possession of marijuana and criminal trespass. He was sentenced to two years in jail.
