The local arts community is expected to gather in Henry County this weekend, to add a creative flair to the city –– holiday style.
The 18th annual Christmas With the Arts will be presented, Sunday, at 3 p.m., at the Henry County Performing Arts Center, 37 Lemon St., in McDonough.
“It’s a celebration of the arts in the county, with music, dance and theater,” said Lynna Schmidt, president of the Henry Arts Alliance, who is coordinating the occasion. “It’s a good way to promote the arts, because it gives the community a chance to see the arts in its different forms, whether it be dance, singing, theater or visual arts.”
Tickets are $5 each, and are available at Moye’s Pharmacy locations.
Among the scheduled performers for the Yuletide event are local singer, Katie Lawhorne, the Henry Players, and several local choirs. Christmas With the Arts will also feature a juried art show, with participants from the Visual artists Collective and the McDonough Arts organization.
Jeanne Palpant, director of the Upstage Dance Center on Price Quarters Road, in McDonough, will lead students in her adult tap and ballet classes, for performances at Christmas With the Arts. Palpant said participants in her school have taken part in the holiday event for the last 10 years.
“It’s an awesome opportunity to be involved in a community Christmas program, where arts organizations from all over the county come in and perform,” said Palpant. “Some have tap-danced since they were children,” she said. “Others are beginners. They love the opportunity to perform, at the Henry County Performing Arts Center.”
