To usher in the holiday season, the Clayton County Senior Services Department is hosting a stage play-and-dinner event.
Marquita Bundrage, marketing and events coordinator, said the event will be held Dec. 14, at the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center, in Jonesboro.
Dinner will be served from 6 p.m., to 7 p.m., and the comedy, “It’s Christmas, Will You Go With Me,” will “promptly” begin at 7 p.m., said Bundrage. Tickets are $12.
Cast members for the play represent drama clubs from the Frank Bailey Senior Center, the Griswell Center, and grandparents who participate in the Kinship Care program. The Kinship Care Resource Center, located in Jonesboro, is a program for grandparents, who are raising grandchildren.
“They [have] been practicing since July, and are ready for this year’s performance,” said Bundrage.
Last year, she said, when the event was introduced to the public, it was a big hit. She noted that approximately 200 patrons bought tickets. Last year, the seniors performed the play “O Holy Night,” which was written by Elaine Jackson, the health and wellness coordinator for Clayton County Senior Services.
On Wednesday, Bundrage said those in the play participated in a “meet the cast” event at the Griswell Center, where they mingled with other seniors, and enjoyed an assortment of food and refreshments.
Tickets for the upcoming play can be purchased from the Griswell Senior Center, located at 2300 Highway 138 S.E., in Jonesboro, and the Frank Bailey Senior Center, at 6213 Riverdale Road, in Riverdale.
