The 2011 Michael B. King Spelling Legal-Bee will be held on Saturday, Dec.17, at the National Archives, in Morrow. The spelling contest will begin at 9 a.m. The deadline for submitting registration forms is Friday, Dec. 16. There is no registration fee. The top spellers in the elementary school division, and middle school division will receive $150, and trophies. The second-through-seventh-place spellers will receive trophies, and $100, $75, $50, $25, $15, or $5, respectively.
Monday, Dec. 19
Clayton County Public Schools will be closed for Winter Break Dec. 19 through Jan. 1. The administrative offices will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012. Students will return to school for the second semester on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Air Force Reserve Airman Amanda Copeland has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Copeland is a 2008 graduate of Roswell High School, and is the daughter of Menthalia Copeland, of College Park.
Clayton State University Health Services (UHS) is offering flu shots for the Clayton State, and surrounding, communities. No appointment is necessary for the shots, which can be administered to individuals, age 3 and older. Costs are: Clayton State students, faculty, staff, and family members –– $15. The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
