Joel H. Rowan, 84, of Stockbridge, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011. He was born in McDonough, to the late Henry Washington and Lois Brannan Rowan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marian Martin Rowan, siblings, Julian Rowan, Virginia Kelley, Robert Rowan, Gerald Rowan, and Martha Stensrud.
Joel was an active member of McDonough Presbyterian Church, and he served as a member of the Diaconate from 1993 to 1995. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Coast Guard as a Merchant Marine. Joel was a member of the Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort, a charter member of the Eagle’s Landing Country Club, the American Legion Post #0400, the Henry County Moose Lodge #2107 and the Elks/BPOE #1200, Griffin, Ga.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dee Rowan, of Griffin; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and long-time friends, Mickey Witzl, and Eddie and Jennie Walker.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at McDonough Presbyterian Church at 11a.m., with the Rev. Rachael Knoll and the Rev. Randy Calvo officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel First United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 5 p.m., to 7p.m., and Sunday, from 2 p.m., to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
