Mr. Luther S. Shoemaker

Mr. Luther S. Shoemaker, 74, was born on Nov. 2, 1937, in Gwinnett County. He went to be with the Lord on Dec. 16, 2011, at his home in Forest Park.

Luther owned and operated Shoemaker Ditch and Grading Company, from 1970 until 1994. He retired when he started having problems with his eyesight. Luther was a very dedicated husband and father. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Forest Park. His passion was his family, fishing, playing keno, wrestling, and listening to his gospel TV stations.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Shoemaker; sons, Howard (Gayleen) Shoemaker, of Stockbridge, Harold Shoemaker, of Griffin, Charles (Venetha) Shoemaker, of Conyers; 3 stepdaughters, Brenda Gail Weitnauer, Betty Jean Quick, Tammy and husband, Juan Hernandez; sister, Ollie Smith, of Jefferson, Ga.; brother, Willie David Shoemaker, of Texas; 19 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at noon at Parkway Garden

Chapel. Interment followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Ellenwood, Ga. Gary Shelton and Johnny Rollins officiated. Pallbearers were Jeremy Carlton, Mark Simon, Daniel Shoemaker, Chad Shoemaker, Brandon Shoemaker, Dylan Quick and Zachary Shoemaker.

Luther also had a very dear friend whom he called his stepson, Charles Mosley. Charles, a very dependable and honest friend to Luther, was also his fishing and Keno buddy, who was always there when we needed him –– no matter what. Thank you, Charles. Luther will truly be missed. Arrangements were under the direction of Parkway Garden Chapel.
