Local holiday travelers will continue to battle gridlock into the new year, as construction crews work to improve a busy area of Henry County.
Roadwork is expected to continue into March of 2012, on Ga. Highway 42 near Eagle’s Landing Parkway, in Stockbridge. The endeavor, which began in 2009, is a project of the county’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program. “It’s a two-and-a-half-year project, widening Eagle’s Landing Parkway from two to four lanes,” said SPLOST Transportation Projects Director Roque Romero. “It includes two bridges — one over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, and one over Pate’s Creek.” The construction for the widening effort is being funded by stimulus dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, according to county spokesperson, Julie Hoover-Ernst. Romero said that construction is limited between the hours of 9 a.m., and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. “We’re not working the road during the daytime,” said Romero. “There’s work next to the road, that is not impeding traffic.” For more information, visit www.co.henry.ga.us/SPLOST/.More like this story
