Businesses, churches, residents to celebrate new year

Several events are scheduled in Henry County, to help local residents call attention to the end of 2011, and to begin the new year.

Truett’s Grill, located at 1785 Jonesboro Road, in McDonough, will host its eighth annual “Nugget Drop,” Saturday.

A replica of a large chicken nugget will be dropped into faux honey mustard sauce, followed by a fireworks display. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Festivities include live musical entertainment by the Silver City Band, Exit 417, Dave Stroup and band, a 4-D Movie Ride, a video game center, a Euro-bungee, jousting, a running obstacle course, skeet ball, and a mechanical bull. There will be a special “chicken mini” area for kids six and under, which will feature a moonwalk, slide, basketball, face-painting and kiddie games. The public is asked to park in Sam’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods Parking Lot. For more information, call (678) 432-2221.

Elsewhere in the City of McDonough, the first Geranium Drop will be held on The Square, Saturday, with festivities beginning at 8:30 p.m. The event will feature a combination of vendors, music, and a dance floor. It will culminate with a five-foot flower pot dropping geraniums. Geraniums will be dropped from one of the McDonough Fire Department trucks. Activities during the event will include a photo booth, and performances by the Mackie Creek Band, and singers, Danny Ray, and Dane Hildreth. Several local charities will sell refreshments and other items. For more details, call (678) 583-1185.
