Clayton Schools to host 'Hear Our Voices'

Clayton County Public Schools will host the speech portion of its annual "Hear Our Voices" competition today, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, at 2530 Mt. Zion Pkwy., in Jonesboro. Call (770) 473-2875.

Saturday

Clayton State University's School of Business will provide free tax support to taxpayers through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m., at the School of Business building, on the university's main campus in Morrow. The assistance will be provided by accounting students at the school. The help will also be provided on Feb. 12, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26, and on March 19 and March 26. The Morrow branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Weather Forecaster's Day: Movie & Craft" event on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 2 p.m., to 4:30 p.m., at the library branch, located at 6225 Maddox Road, in Morrow. The U. S. Army National Guard recently announced that Spec. James J. Morgan, Pfc. Sok Choun and other members of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment) have completed their role in the Maneuver Battle Lab's Ground Combat Vehicle Capacity Experiment at Fort Benning, in Columbus. Morgan is a 1991 graduate of Riverdale High School, and the son of Jonesboro residents, James J. and Paula Morgan. Choun is the son of Jonesboro resident, Sav Kang. The experiment was an effort to review proposals to design and resolve production issues facing a future ground combat vehicle's crew and troop transporting capabilities.

The U.S. Army recently announced that Pfc. Pamela D. Hunter, the daughter of Forest Park residentm Nekiya T. Hunter, and Atlanta resident, Harold Murray, has arrived for duty at Fort Hood, in Killeen, Texas. Pfc. Hunter, a food service specialist with one year of military service, has been assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
