Ellis P. “Pete” Cook, age 77, of Jackson, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Jasper County, Nov. 8, 1933, son of the late Raymond and Dovie Thaxton Cook. He was employed by General Motors for 33 years before his retirement. Pete was in the Georgia National Guard for 42 years. He was a long-time member of the Second Baptist Church in Jackson where he served as a deacon. He was very active in all activities of the church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Bennett Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Lannie Bittinger; grandson, Clay and Stephanie Bittinger; brother, Raymond Cook; local nephews, Terry Kitchens and Harry Cook. He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Leon Cook, in 1970. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. The Rev. Oscar Walker and the Rev. Jack Landhand officiated. Interment was in the Pepperton Cemetery in Jackson with military honors.
