Eight players from the Southern Crescent were recently named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-state team in their respective classification.
Amarlo Herrera, the Southern Crescent Clayton County Player of the Year, headline the list of Class AAAA players named to the annual team. The Georgia signee had 151 tackles this season in leading the Eagles to the playoffs.
Joining Herrera on the Class AAAA team was Lovejoy teammates Lamont Hardy and David Washington. Hardy, a 6-foot-6, 340-pound offensive tackle signed with Western Arizona College while Washington, a defensive tackle signed with Kentucky.
Also named to the AAAA team was Dutchtown kicker Ryan Kay, who signed with Troy last week.
During the Bulldogs playoff run, Kay kicked a state playoff record-tying five field goals in their win against Thomas County Central in the first round.
Eagle's Landing Christian had four players to make the all-state team in Class A.
Leading the way for the Region 5-A champion Chargers was sophomore Keyante Green, who was named the Southern Crescent Henry County Player
of the Year after helping
ELCA reached the quarterfinals.
Green was one of only two sophomores in the state to be named to the GACA all-state team.
Virginia Tech signee Christian Reeves was named as a wide receiver while California signee Avery Walls was named as a defensive back. Walls is an early enrollee at California where he will participate in spring drills.
Tanner Rogers, a linebacker, signed with Charleston Southern.
The selection committee was composed of the head coach of each region champion from around the state.
After the selection meeting, the GACA held a luncheon to honor all the region champion and state champion head coaches.
