Headquarters library to host hair maintenance program

The Headquarters branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a one-night program on "How to Maintain Your Natural Hair Texture" on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 7 p.m., to 8:45 p.m., at the library branch, which is located at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. Cosmetology instructor, Pamela Simmons, is scheduled to share coloring techniques, and explain what impact the use of weaves and cornrow styles can have on a person's hair. The Headquarters branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Friday Family Movie" event on Friday, Feb. 11, from 4 p.m., to 5:30 p.m., at the library branch, at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. The movie scheduled to be shown is "Ruby Bridges." Call (770) 473-3850.

Saturday

Clayton State University's School of Business will provide free tax support to taxpayers through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m., at the School of Business building, on the university's main campus in Morrow. The assistance will be provided by accounting students at the school. The help will also be provided on Feb. 19, Feb. 26, March 19, and March 26. Call (678) 466-4527.

The Lovejoy branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Chocolate Tasting Party and Movie" event on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 2 p.m., to 4 p.m., at the library branch, located at 1721 McDonough Road, in Hampton. The Forest Park branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Valentine Movie & Craft" event on Monday, Feb. 14, from 7 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the library branch, at 696 Main Street, in Forest Park. The movie scheduled to be shown is "A Charlie Brown Valentine." Call (404) 366-0850.

The Jonesboro branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Valentine's Day Stories & Craft" event on Monday, Feb. 14, from 7 p.m., to 7:45 p.m., at the library branch, at 124 Smith St., in Jonesboro. Tuesday

The Morrow branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Library Lover's Month Activity" event on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 6 p.m., to 8:30 p.m., at the library branch, located at 6225 Maddox Road, in Morrow. The Riverdale branch of the Clayton County Library System will host an "African-American Heroes and Sheroes" event on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 7 p.m., to 7:45 p.m., at the library branch, which is located at 420 Valley Hill Road, in Riverdale. Shorter University has announced that Hampton resident, Stephanie Yvette Clowers, and Jonesboro resident, Christina Maria Vila, are among its fall 2010 dean's list honorees. To achieve this honor, students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average for the term.

The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English, or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test-preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams. The Everett Music School is offering a Music After School Program for local children, at its new location at the Emmanuel Baptist Church Campus, at 230 Ga. Hwy. 138, Bldg. B, in Riverdale. Youths receive homework assistance, Criterion-Reference Competency Test (CRCT) preparation, math and reading enrichment, and music lessons for piano, drums, singing and music theory.
