Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services officials were investigating a fatal fire, that happened at a Riverdale home, on Wednesday.

According to Battalion Chief of Technology Services and Public Affairs Jacque Feilke, the body of a man was found in the basement of his residence.

"As soon as the fire was extinguished, they [firefighters] found the body," she said.

She added that a second man was present at the home, but escaped through a window with no injuries.

The names of the victim, and the man who escaped, were unavailable, on Wednesday, according to Feilke.

The fire occurred around 11:30 a.m., on Roxbury Drive, in Riverdale, Feilke said.

Information regarding the cause of death was not released, on Wednesday.

"Right now, we do not think it was foul play," said Feilke. She added that officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Investigators suspect that the fire originated in the basement of the home, she said. "When the first crews arrived, flames were coming out from the basement," she added.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was also on the scene to investigate the incident and the death, Feilke said.
