Clayton State track and field concludes indoor season at Tiger Tune-Up
The Clayton State Laker men's and women's track and field teams concluded the 2011 indoor season with the solid showing on Saturday in the Tiger Tune-Up at Clemson. The two teams combined for nine Top 10 finishes and one school record.
The school record came in the men's meet as senior Fidelis Mutiso bettered his mark in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.74 to finish fourth overall. In the men's mile run, sophomore Ayrton Azcue finished fifth with a time of 4:31.26, while freshman Charles Anderson recorded a fifth-place finish in the men's 800-meter run in 1:57.99.
Junior Shelby Russell placed seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:58.82, while the Laker 4x400-meter relay team of Azcue, Anderson, Russell and Robert Spezzacatena placed third in 3:27.31.
In the women's meet, Clayton State two Top 10 finishers in the 3,000-meter run. Senior Chelsea Ellis placed sixth in 10:54.29, and junior Kourtney Aylor placed eighth in 11:14.09. In addition, sophomore Monique Belmudes finished ninth in the mile run in 5:18.04.
Clayton State opens its outdoor season on Mar. 18-19 in the Georgia Intercollegiate Invite at Georgia Tech.
