Funeral Home: Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson
Duane Fredrick Lower, age 81, of Jackson, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at the Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston. He was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Scranton, Iowa, son of the late Fredrick and Nellie Mae Cornish Lower. He was in the U.S. Army for 23 years as a helicopter mechanic serving in Japan, Korea and two terms in Vietnam. After retirement from the Army he was employed by Roadway Express for 20 years as a diesel mechanic. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lidia Augusta Samuels Lower of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Budd and Pam Lower, of Fayetteville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mae and James Fleming, of Jonesboro, Dalynda and Ray Almand, of Hampton, Irene Williams, of Lovejoy, and Chaguita and Bob Reynolds, of McDonough; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Marold Schultz, Lorraine Schultz, Howard Lower and Darlene Lower. A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
