A man attempting to flee an officer, after he allegedly failed sobriety tests, was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on I-75 southbound.
According to Morrow Police Department spokesman, Capt. James Callaway, 28-year-old Kevin Dewayne Foster, of Rex, was driving a 2011 GMC Yukon, and was pulled over by an officer, early Sunday morning.
The name of the tractor trailer driver was not released by Morrow police, Tuesday, because he will not be charged, the spokesman said.
Callaway said Foster was driving 75 miles per hour, in a 55 mile-per-hour zone, between Jonesboro Road, and Mt. Zion Road.
"The vehicle was stopped, and the officer smelled alcohol [on Foster]," he explained.
"The officer performed sobriety tests and attempted to arrest the subject[ Foster]," said Callaway. He said Foster failed all of the standardized field sobriety tests, and the roadside breathalyzer test.
"The officer got one handcuff on, and the subject spun around and struggled with the officer," said the Morrow Police spokesman.
"The subject broke free from the officer and ran onto the interstate where he was struck and killed by a tractor trailer."
The spokesman said Kevin Foster died on the scene.
The interstate [I-75 southbound] was shut down for several hours, according to Callaway.
