A 21-year-old man is accused of giving a teenager a gun, which the teen allegedly used to kill a 16-year-old girl.
Robert Allen Bethune, of Ellenwood, is charged with furnishing or permitting a minor to possess a pistol, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to Clayton County Police public information officer Sgt. Otis Willis.
Willis said an arrest warrant for Bethune was issued on Tuesday. Bethune was in the Clayton County Jail, Wednesday, he said.
According to online court documents, Bethune is represented the Clayton County Public Defender's Office, which could not be reached for comment, Wednesday.
Bethune is scheduled for a preliminary hearing, on Tuesday, March 8, according to online court documents.
The 15-year-old boy whom Bethune allegedly gave the weapon, is accused of shooting his reported girlfriend, on Monday afternoon, in a wooded area, in Ellenwood, according to Willis.
"Officers found a 16-year-old, white female, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, and was later pronounced dead on the scene," said Officer John K. Schneller, also a Clayton County Police public information officer.
Police said the teenaged boy did confess to the shooting, and lead police to the weapon, which was located in a nearcreek.
According to a previous report the Clayton News Daily, the name of the victim was not released, Tuesday, due to the ongoing investigation, police said, and the fact both victim and suspect are juveniles.
"It is alleged that they were dating," said Willis in a comment given to the Clayton News Daily, Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Willis declined to comment on the relationship of the murder suspect and Robert Bethune, due to pending investigations. He added that he could not release information as to whether the suspect told police that he was given the weapon Bethune.
