Clayton County Police were in the process Thursday of getting arrest warrants for three people they believe were involved in a drive-by shooting at the Forest Park exit ramp off of Interstate 75.
The shooting, which occurred around 3:05 a.m. Thursday, resulted in two injuries from gunshots. One victim was in serious condition, and another was treated and released, according to Clayton County Police spokesman, Sgt. Otis Willis.
Willis said police believe those shot, and those doing the shooting, were involved in some type of dispute, but he did not provide information regarding the disagreement, nor the names of those involved in the incident. He said the matter was still under investigation.
The victims, whose identity was not immediately released, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, and Atlanta Medical Center, added Willis.
Police said the victims were traveling in a gray, 2002 Ford Mustang and had just pulled off from Tara Boulevard, and were entering I-75, when the occupants of a dark gray 1999 Acura Legend, pulled alongside them, and began shooting.
"Witnesses observed flames pointing towards the mustang," said Willis, and both of its occupants were struck.
"The mustang hit the guard rail...and one of the subjects [victims] got out and staggered," said Willis.
Police located the suspect's vehicle just a short distance from the shooting, but they escaped on foot.
"Police found shell casings and blood inside the Acura," Willis revealed.
Willis explained that since the suspects fled on foot, two Clayton County Police K-9 units were able to track down their scent to the Econo Lodge Motel, on Frontage Road, along I-75, in Forest Park.
"The Clayton County Police department set up the perimeter, and then notified the [Clayton County Police] SWAT team,...and they responded," said Willis. However he said officers did not find the suspects at the motel.
According to Willis, two people of interest were detained at another location, in the county, and were being interviewed, at Clayton County Police Headquarters, Thursday.
