Arts Clayton will have a "Celebrating Art-Juried Show Winners Past & Present" exhibit, from Wednesday, Jan. 5, to Jan. 28, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m., at the Arts Clayton Gallery, 136 South Main Street, Jonesboro. McNair Productions is accepting registrations for "Women Taking Charge! The Southern Crescent Women's Conference Series," until Feb. 15. Registration is $40, and $50 after Feb.15. Clayton State University will host "The Welcome Back-yard Ice Skate Party," on Jan. 13, from 6 p.m., to 10 p.m., at the Student Activities Center at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow. The Georgia Center for Youth and Families, Inc., will have a "Grant-writing 101 workshop: Funding Your Passion," Jan. 13, at 9 a.m., and Jan. 14, at 5 p.m., at the community room of the Clayton County Police Department Headquarters Building, 7911 North McDonough St., Jonesboro. Individuals will learn the essentials of writing, researching, obtaining and maintaining operations and strategies, within the grant system. The cost of the workshop is $55 per person. The Georgia Cancer Specialists will host its ninth annual "Totes 2 Tots" suitcase drive, on Jan. 14, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., at Georgia Cancer Specialists, 1045 Southcrest Drive, Stockbridge. Jan. 20

Clayton State University, in partnership with the National Archives at Atlanta, will have a free "In Step with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Civil Rights Movement" commemorative event, on Jan. 20, from 6:30, to 8 p.m., at the National Archives at Atlanta, 5780 Jonesboro Road, Morrow. The event will be highlighted by an exhibit entitled, "Revisiting the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement Through an Activist's Lens." Clayton State University will have its third annual "MLK Rally and March," on Jan. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the ballroom of the Student Activities Center at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow. Clayton State University will have an "Inaugural School of Business Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series," on Jan. 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow. The series is free and open to the public. The speaker will be W. Cliff Oxford, CEO of Entrepreneur Advisors, Inc. Jan. 29

The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce will have its "57th Annual Banquet," on Jan. 29, at 7 p.m., at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport, 1900 Sullivan Road, College Park. The induction of the chamber's 2011 Board of Directors and presentations of its annual awards will take place. The cost is $100 per person or $1,000 per table. The American Red Cross is seeking blood donors, until Jan. 31, as part of "National Blood Donor Month." During this time of year, blood supplies often fall to the lowest level. Those interested in donating blood should schedule an appointment, by calling 1-800-733-2767.

Feb. 10

The Clayton State University women's basketball team will face Lander University, of Greenwood, S.C., on Feb. 10, at 5:30 p.m., at the university's Athletic and Fitness Center, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow. CSU's men's team will play Lander University at 7:30 p.m. At half-time of the men's basketball game, the Clayton State Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. Feb. 19

Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County, Inc., and the Archway African American History Committee, have partnered to host the "African Heritage Day Celebration," on Feb. 19, from 10 a.m., to 1 p.m., at The National Archives at Atlanta, 5780 Jonesboro Road, Morrow. Clayton County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registrations for the "Men's Basketball Tournament," until Feb. 28, Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m., to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m., to 6 p.m., at the Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, 3499 Rex Road, Rex.
