Sisters will give community a makeover

Two sisters, with more than 15 years of experience in beauty enhancement, will open the doors of their Morrow salon to the community for free services, Wednesday.

Patrons who visit The Beauty Bar Hair Studio and Make-Up Lounge before 5 p.m., will receive a free shampoo and style, a healthy-hair consultation, and light refreshments, while listening to smooth jazz, according to owners, Nikki Singletary, 39, and Atiya Black, 35.

The free event, Black said, is sponsored by Boost Mobile, and will be held at the salon, located at 1500 Mt. Zion Road, Suite 204, in Morrow, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 12 p.m., until 5 p.m. Those coming by later will get discounted "beauty bucks" that they can use later, said Black.

"We wanted to give back to the community," she added.

The two women, originally from New York, said their expertise includes hair care, make-up services, eyebrow-arching, and eyebrow application.

The sisters explained that, since so many people invested money doing for others for the holiday season, they wanted to give people a chance to "give to themselves."

"We want to encourage people to make healthy hair care a part of their daily beauty regiment," Black said, in a written statement about the event.

"The stylists [a staff of eight] of The Beauty Bar Hair Studio and Make-Up Lounge, also have experience in providing services to alopecia and cancer patients," Black said. The staff, she said, also provides hair-extension services for clients with hair loss due to cancer.

"We want to make them feel more comfortable," she added.

For those attending the event, the sisters are asking them to donate a coat, or blanket, for an upcoming charity drive the two plan to host.

The women began their careers as traveling stylists, who performed services such as eyebrow-arching, and makeovers for women at bridal showers, tea parties, and girls-night-out events, according to Black and Singletary. They opened the Morrow salon last July.

"The Beauty Bar Hair Studio and Make-Up lounge believes that it is set apart from other salons in the area, because it offers a total beauty experience, with professional salon services, beauty and image consultations, all within an eclectic atmosphere," the sisters said in the written statement.

"We provide the latest and greatest trends as well," said Black. "The event is going to be oh so fabulous."
