Mrs. Louisia “Beth” Brown, 72, of McDonough, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011. Beth Brown grew up in a large family in Fannin County, Ga. After graduating from high school, she attended Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. There, she played varsity basketball and later received an associate degree. After college, Beth moved to Atlanta and worked in banking. It was in Atlanta that she met her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Brown, who preceded her in death. After marriage, Beth and Kenneth moved to Clayton County, where they raised their family and attended First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Beth was a long-time choir member, and greeter, at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. For many years, Beth was employed by Clayton Mental Health Center. She also worked as an accountant for Delta Air Lines. She retired from Delta Air Lines, Inc., in 2000, after 23 years of service. After retirement, Beth spent much of her time caring for, and serving, others, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Kevin R. Brown, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and daughter and son-in-law, Kenda Brown and David L. Meeks, of Marietta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Jean Underwood, of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Brannon and Kathleen Underwood, of Orangeburg, S.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law; Carmi and Kenneth Wood, of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Berniece and Cecil Harper, of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; sisters, Anne Fleeman, of Blue Ridge, and Frances Ramsdell, of Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Meeks, Alyssa Meeks, Abigail Gibbons and Kristen Meeks; sister-in-law, Jean Underwood, of Spring Hill, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m., in the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro Worship Center, with the Rev. Irvin Pearre officiating. The body will lie in-state for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Saturday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m., in the Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens, Blue Ridge, Ga. The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 21, from 5 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
