Riverdale library to host 'Happee the Clown'

Morrow High School's Local School Council is scheduled to meet today, at 7 a.m., at the school, which is located at 2299 Old Rex Morrow Road, in Morrow. Call (404) 362-3865.

The Riverdale branch of the Clayton County Library System will host a "Pre-school Storytime with Happee the Clown" today, from 10 a.m., to 11 a.m., at 420 Valley Hill Road, in Riverdale. Guest reader, "Happee the Clown," will tell stories, and lead children in singing songs. Geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 5. Call (770) 472-8100.

The Clayton County Library System's Youth Services Department will present a program, entitled "Help Your Child Get Ready to Read," today, from 6:30 p.m., to 7:30 p.m., at the library system's headquarters branch, at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. Parents will learn how to help their young children learn to read. Their children, meanwhile, will be able to attend a story-time event. Friday - Sunday

The Clayton County Library System's headquarters branch will host a "Friday Family Movie" on Friday, Jan. 21, from 4 p.m., to 5:45 p.m., at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. The film scheduled to be shown is "Shrek Forever After." Call (770) 473-3850.

Clayton County Public Schools' Fine Arts Department is scheduled to perform its 2011 all-county musical production of "Willy Wonka" on Friday, Jan. 21; Saturday, Jan. 22, and Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, at 2530 Mt. The U.S. Air Force recently announced that Airman Ariel A. Robinson, the daughter of Riverdale resident, Kimberly Frazier, and Marietta resident, Albert Robinson, has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas.

The U.S. Army Reserve recently announced that Sgt. Edilberto Mendez, a 2009 graduate of Mount Zion High School, and Staff Sgt. Carnell W. Redden, the sister of Riverdale resident, Linda E. Jenkins, have been mobilized and activated at Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, in New Jersey, in preparation for deployment overseas to serve in support of Operation New Dawn (formerly called Operation Iraqi Freedom).

Mendez, a computer detection systems repairer with one year of military service, and Redden, a special devices repairer with 26 years of military service, are members of the 238th Maintenance Company, based out of San Antonio, Texas. Mendez is the son of Jonesboro residents, Lourdes and Leocadio Mendez.
