Are you receiving the blessings of God? - James C. Bell

I was talking with a young soldier at the airport the other day, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I asked him: "Are you receiving the blessings of God?"

He seemed to feel somewhat reluctant to agree with what I was saying. He said, "I am a good person and I try to treat everyone right. I don't go to church on a regular basis, but I do go now and then. I think God might bless me, but I'm not sure."

I told him he looked as if he was in good physical shape, and asked if he exercised regularly. He said, "Oh yes, I get a good bit of exercise every day."

"I'll bet you have had some very good training since you've been in the army and you have excelled at being a soldier," I said. He answered: "I take my training seriously and feel I am a professional soldier."

I said, "You know, when God created Adam and Eve, He said, (Genesis 1:26) "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. 'Image' includes such characteristics as righteousness and holiness and knowledge, so man was not just made physically and mentally, but also spiritually," I said.

"We have three dimensions, the third being spiritual," I continued. "How would you grade yourself on each of these areas?" He said, "Well, on the first two, I think I would have an 'A', but on the third, I would probably get an 'F!'"

"You can pull that 'F' up to an 'A,' if you are willing to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and establish a relationship with Him," I said. "The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that 'All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.' Would you admit your sin and pray the sinner's prayer with me?"

He said, "I believe all you have told me, but I'm going to have to think about this before I pray that prayer." I gave him one of my CD's, and asked him to listen closely to the gospel tract, check it out in his Bible, and then, he may be ready to follow Christ. "He loves you and wants to forgive your sins," I added.

There are so many people today, who are not in relationship to Jesus Christ and are not being blessed, or living their life to the fullest. Jesus said in John 10: 10, "I am come that you may have life and have it to the fullest."

I interpret this verse to mean our blessings from God will be full, right here on earth and also in Heaven! Listen -- we are made in the image of God, and we have an awesome capacity to develop spiritually!

If we will believe in God and repent of our sins, He will not only forgive us fully, but also forget our sins. He will lead us in the pathways of righteousness, and teach us His ways until we know Him and trust Him completely. He wants us to get to the place in life where we depend on Him. Yes!

His desire is for us to trust Him so strongly that we will give up our lives, our wants and everything we hold dear, and say sincerely to Him -- "Lord, I worship You and praise Your Holy Name! I know this life is not strictly for me, for I am not important! It's all about You and You are worthy of my praise! Please take my life and grant that I may be used in Your Will and work."

If anyone can have such faith in God through Jesus Christ and live each day for Him, then, they will receive the great blessings that come in a life devoted to Him. He gives us guidance and good counsel and helps us to make the right choices and decisions in life. Psalm 37:3-4 says, "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."

What a great and mighty God! He who loves us and came to this earth to show us how to live and to give His life as a ransom for our sins, that we may have a way to come to Him in Heaven and dwell there forever with Jesus and all who love and believe in Him! Praise His Holy Name!

Do you want to receive the blessings of God? Then, have faith in Him!
