A Union City woman was struck by a vehicle on I-285 westbound, near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, after authorities say she ran into traffic to flag down officers.
According to Clayton County Police Public Information Officer, Sgt. Otis Willis, 45-year-old Jeanie L. Vanload, called 9-1-1, early Wednesday morning, and said that she was stranded on the I-285 west highway.
"Officers responded to 285 and Riverdale Road...they did not see [a] vehicle," he said.
He added that authorities pulled to the side of the highway, and Vanload, in an attempt to meet authorities, ran from the median, into traffic, and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
The identity of the person who hit the victim, was unavailable, Wednesday afternoon.
"She [Vanload] has non-life threatening injuries," said Willis.
Vanload suffered leg injuries, and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, according to Willis.
The police sergeant added that Vanload's vehicle was never located, and police were investigating the whereabouts of the car.
Information was not available on Wednesday, about whether or not the driver who hit Vanload was cited, or faced any charges.
