Here's a look at the how professional baseball players with ties to the Southern Crescent are doing this season.

Major Leagues:

Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves)--The former Henry County High School standout has spent part of the season on the disabled list after battling a shoulder injury.

The Braves' second-year right fielder has struggled at the plate at times this season and is only batting .228. He has seven home runs, 18 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

In the team's recent three-game sweep against Seattle, Heyward had a hit in each game.

Friday night, Heyward and the Braves opened a weekend holiday series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Kyle Davies (Kansas City Royals)--The former Stockbridge pitching star, who made his major league debut with the Atlanta Braves before being traded to the Royals in 2007 has been rehabbing in the minors.

The team was hoping to bring Davies back up to the big league club this weekend. Before getting hurt, Davies was 1-6 with a high 7.46 ERA. Most recently in Omaha, the team's triple AAA affiliate, Davies is 1-1 with an impressive 0.75 ERA. He has 14 strike outs and no walks. He has pitched in 12 innings.

Japanese Baseball:

Matt Murton (Hanshin Tigers)--The country has been devastated by earthquakes and aftershocks, but professional baseball goes on, and Matt M Murton, the former Eagle's Landing and Georgia Tech standout has become a superstar in that country's version of the major leagues.

Murton's baseball contract was solid by the Colorado Rockies to Hanshin where he made his presence know last year, breaking the record (211) set by Ichiro Suzuki for most hits in a season. He batted .349.

This year, he is off to another fast start with five homers, 20 RBIs and a .313 batting average.


Luke Murton Tampa (Yankees High Class A)--Like his brother, the younger Murton played at Eagle's Landing and Georgia Tech. He is in his second year of professional baseball.

Through 66 games, he is batting .270 with 32 RBIs and five home runs. He has 19 doubles and a triple.

Scott Robinson Modesto (Colorado Rockies High Class A)--Jason Heyward's former high school teammate at Henry County, is batting .247 with 182 at-bats. He has 17 RBIs.

Isaiah Froneberger Tri-Cities (Short Season Colorado Rockies)-After starting the year with Rockies double-A affiliate in Tulsa, Froneberger is trying to get healthy again after a case of turf toe disabled him for several games. Now' he's pitching with Tri-Cities, the team's short season minor league club where he has made five starts. He has five strikeouts and two walks since returning.
