Clayton County police are looking for a man wanted in connection with the shooting of his former girlfriend, in College Park.

Sgt. Otis Willis III said warrants have been filed against Lavar Donnez Ferrell, 33, in Saturday's shooting. Ferrell, also known as "Dirt," is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm a convicted felon, and other alleged violations, said Willis.

Police said the shooting happened about 11 a.m. in the victim's College Park yard.

Court records show Ferrell is on a nine-year probation for making terroristic threats against his former girlfriend, Monique Van Dunk, 30. Warrants allege that at the time of Saturday's shooting, Ferrell had already violated that probation contacting Van Dunk.

Warrants allege Ferrell broke into Van Dunk's house on Williamsburg Trace, and waited for her to return. When Van Dunk entered her home, she said she smelled cigarette smoke and opened windows to air out the odor, the warrants state. Van Dunk then realized Ferrell was inside her home. Ferrell allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her and ordered her to her car, warrants allege.

Van Dunk tried to run out the back door, but Ferrell grabbed her shirt and forced her to her 2005 Dodge Charger. When Ferrell tucked his gun into his waistband, Van Dunk again tried to flee. Police said Ferrell fired at her as she ran to a neighbor's home, hitting her once in the neck. Police said they found seven shell casings at the scene.

Willis said Ferrell stole Van Dunk's electric blue 2005 Dodge Charger, with Georgia license plate BP12764, and immediately left the area. Ferrell is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

"Notify law enforcement immediately," said Willis, "at (770) 477-3648, or Detective John Gosart at (770) 472-8110, with information on Ferrell's whereabouts."

Ferrell has a long history of arrests in Clayton, Fulton and DeKalb counties, according to court records.
