A truck driver was charged Wednesday with second degree vehicular homicide in the death of a pedestrian hit with a metal pole hanging outside of his cargo bed.

Clayton County police arrested and charged Leonard Kleckley, 53, of Riverdale, in connection with the death Monday of Cynthia Geraldine Cameron. Cameron, 57, was struck from behind as she walked southbound along Tara Boulevard near Mason Truck Brokers about 9:50 a.m., said police.

Police said Cameron suffered serious spinal injuries that led to her death about three hours later at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale.

Kleckley was driving a 1996 Ford F-350 and hauling an unsecured load of squared metal posts extending more than two feet beyond the truck bed on the right side edge, said police. He was also cited for having an unsecured load. Kleckley was arrested early Wednesday morning and is in the Clayton County Jail pending a bond hearing.
