A College Park man wanted for murder in Florida held off Clayton County police early Monday morning, barricading himself inside an apartment with a woman and her four children.
Police Officer Eddie Soto said a hostage negotiator was able to get Charles Warren Johnson, 31, to surrender after about two hours. The SWAT team was activated and no one was hurt during the incident, he said.
Police responded to a Riverdale home about 5:27 a.m. in reference to a domestic disturbance. Johnson's brother told police that the two had fought and Johnson fled the scene. Officers found Johnson at the Marquis Cove Apartments on Riverdale Road but he refused to leave the apartment of a female acquaintance and her children, ages 14, 10, 6 and 2, said Soto.
Soto said police confirmed that Johnson is wanted for first degree murder in Miami-Dade County. In Clayton County, he faces five counts of false imprisonment, battery and obstruction of police officers. He is being held in the Clayton County Jail.
