Age: 97
Mrs. Nobie Meherg Cater, 97, of McDonough, formerly of Talladega, Ala., and High Falls, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from lung cancer. Mrs. Cater was a welder in the ship yards of Savannah during WWII, and later became a nurses aide at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by a son, Finley Wayne, (4 years old) ; her husband of 51 years, James A. Cater; daughter-in-law, Jackie Cater, and a granddaughter, Wendy Cater. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cecilia Cater, of McDonough, and Roger Cater, of Acworth; grandchildren, Dan Cater, of Atlanta, Diane Rose, of California, and Kim Metzler, of Smyrna. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 30, at 10 a.m., from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, in Bowden, Ga. Friends may visit the family Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Henry County Senior Center, in memory of Mrs. Cater.
