Mr. Walter E. Maurer, Jr., 86, of Hampton, passed away July 29, 2011. He was born in Atlanta to the late Walter E. Maurer, Sr., and Frances Bell Johnson Maurer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Fauver Maurer, in 2007, and by a sister, Edwina Cochran. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII; was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Atlanta Law School, was an attorney for 50 years and a member of the Georgia State Bar Association. He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time on the Internet and ham radio, hatched butterflies, was an avid bird watcher, and had once sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas. He loved his “darling daughters” and his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters, Dodie (Rad) Porter, of Hampton, Bonnie (Mark) Kidd, of Snellville; grandchildren, Mickey (Jamie) Wade, Patrick (Amber) Porter, Matthew Bryant, Chris (Sherry) Porter, Andy (Shannon) Porter, Jamie (Porter, Chris (Daryl) Kidd; and six great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park with military honors. Contributions are asked to be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Walter.
