Mr. John Thomas Askin (Baby Brother) was born Dec. 20, 1950 to the late Pheanious Askin and Lula Marshall Askin. He departed this life on May 25, 2011. John attended Henderson High School in Jackson and graduated with the class of 1970. He joined Shiloh Baptist Church at a very early age and was ordained as a deacon on April 8, 1984. He recently moved his membership to Antioch First Missionary Baptist Church. He was united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Daisy Grier, on July 12, 1970. To this union the light of his light was born, his daughter, Shayla Danielle Askin. John was a very hard-working man. He got his first job at the youthful age of 14 at the Quick Curb corner store. He had to stand on crates to see customers over the counter. Later, John would work in construction for many years. He worked for L&B Construction, Martin Concrete, Foundation Contractors and ICC, just to name a few. Our beloved brother is survived by his wife, Daisy Grier Askin; daughter, Shayla Danielle Askin; one sister, Maggie Pittman, of Flovilla; brothers, Pheanious Askin, Jr. (Johnnie Ruth), Ricky Askin (Rosie Mae) and Waymon Askin; sisters-in-law, Christine Loadholt (Oliver) and Brenda Askin; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Grier (Erica), Claude Lee Grier, Joseph Grier, and Ervin Grier; aunts, Lizzie Nell Askin, of Detroit, Mich., Betty Askin, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dorothy Marshall, of Jackson; special nephews, Antonious Moore and Dedrick Clay; god-daughters, Mieshia White and Nikki Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
