Former Clayton County prosecutor, John Turner, was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Turner, 62, of Atlanta, was expected to be held overnight in the Clayton County Jail, pending a first-appearance hearing this afternoon in Magistrate Court.

Airport security could not be reached after 5 p.m., Wednesday, for specific details about the arrest.

However, Clayton Sheriff Kem Kimbrough said Turner reportedly told officers he forgot he had a gun in his briefcase. There was no immediate information on why Turner was at the airport.

Turner is a former chief executive assistant district attorney in Clayton County, who worked in the Fulton County District Attorney's Office before coming to Clayton in 2005, to work for then-newly elected District Attorney Jewel Scott.

When Scott lost her re-election bid in 2008, she and Turner formed a private law practice in Jonesboro. Scott could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
